AHIMA House of Delegates Report

Greetings HIM Colleagues,

The week of October 8th  Pam Varhol, NAHIMA President -Elect and I represented NHHIMA at the House of Delegates (HOD) at AHIMA’s 89th National Convention in Los Angeles.

The House is an AHIMA member forum that governs the HIM profession and is comprised of delegates elected or appointed from each of the 52 Component State Associations (CSA’s) and the AHIMA Board of Directors.

The HOD provides the opportunity for delegate discussion and debate to advance the HIM profession.

Topics that were brought to the delegates this year included:

Business Process Outsourcing – review of survey results on HIM jobs/functions being outsourced off shore

Consumer Engagement – delegates came together to discuss opportunities of how to engage consumers in their healthcare, increase understanding of the HIM professional’s role in consumer engagement

HIM ReimaginedUnderstanding the new education competencies intended to meet future workforce needs and identify emerging areas for growth for HIM professionals

Professional Development and LeadershipDevelop strategies for promoting our profession to build applicant pools and increase recognition, identify needed skills to prepare our working professionals for the future of HIM

Future of the HouseHouse members shared suggestions and insights on the future on the direction of the House of Delegates.

In addition to participation in this annual event, Delegates  collaborate to provide input and feedback to  AHIMA on Practice Briefs, best practice statements and toolkits All serve as great resources to our members and available through the AHIMA website.
